Care Clinic Golf Tournament Raises $44,000 to Provide Free Access to Breast Cancer Screening

Summit Community Care Clinic’s annual golf tournament, held on August 24, 2023, Breck Rally for the Cure presented by Pinnacle Gives, raised a record $44,000. Net proceeds from the event help provide free breast cancer screenings and critical support services for Summit Community Care Clinic’s patients with low-income.
According to the American Cancer Society, there is a 13% chance that a woman will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. If detected early, while still in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. However, there is a substantial racial gap in breast cancer survival, largely due to barriers to quality medical services.
In addition to cancer detection, the Care Clinic’s partners at Summit Oncology and Shaw Cancer Center treat patients and help them navigate through the uncertainty that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
“For patients without health insurance, the anxiety and fear that accompany a cancer diagnosis are amplified due to financial challenges and the added stress of navigating an overwhelming health system. The support of our tournament participants, our partners, and that of the greater community, provides hope and tangible support for individuals who need it most,” said Liz Campbell, development director at the Care Clinic.
